Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51:49) states:
وَمِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ
“And of all things We created two mates (pairs), that perhaps you will remember.”
Tafsir Ar-Razi (Fakhr al-Din al-Razi)
Ar-Razi presents a philosophical view:
- The world is built upon duality, and the existence of pairs indicates the unity of the Creator who brings opposites together.
- This verse refutes atheism and polytheism, as it points to a single Creator who designed everything in harmony.
- He also explores how human perception works through contrast (e.g., we understand light because darkness exists).
Summary of Key Interpretations
- Literal: Everything has pairs—male and female, day and night, etc.
- Philosophical: Duality exists to show Allah’s oneness and power.
- Scientific: Even in physics, chemistry, and biology, things exist in complementary pairs.
- Spiritual: Good and evil, belief and disbelief, reward and punishment—all are part of this universal balance.
