How to hold officials accountable
- Track municipal budgets
- Demand transparency
- File complaints against corrupt officials
- Teach people how to navigate procurement laws
- Navigate financial reports
Opposition parties are playing the same game
- They don’t want to uproot the system, they want to inherit it.
- Opposition parties should be watchdogs, not lapdogs.
- Expose every irregularity
- They don’t want to dismantle the bureaucracy, they want to sit at it’s head.
- Their outrage is performative.
- Their promise is hollow.
- If their had any vision, they would be leading the charge to create a new culture of accountability.
- Opposition parties should:
- Do name and shame campaigns of public officials
- Line the streets with their faces.
- Present public scorecards of the government officials.
- But they benefit form the same system they pretend to fight against
- They are as much gatekeepers of oppression as the bureaucrats themselves.
- Just dressed in different colours.
- If opposition parties won’t do the work. NGO’s should.
