The Quran and Sunnah are the true criterion of Right and Wrong
“Then We sent following their footsteps Our messengers and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy. But monasticism, they invented it; We did not prescribe it for them except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allah. But they did not observe it with due observance. So We gave the ones who believed among them their reward, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.”
(Quran 57:27)
- No Renunciation of the World:
- Islam encourages engagement with the world while maintaining spiritual devotion. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “There is no monasticism in Islam.” (Sahih Bukhari).
- Muslims are encouraged to marry, work, and participate in society while fulfilling their religious obligations.
- Moderation in Worship:
- Islam teaches moderation in all aspects of life, including worship. Excessive asceticism or withdrawal from society is not encouraged.
- The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned against extremism in religion, saying, “Do not impose hardships on yourselves, lest you be imposed with hardships, for indeed some people imposed hardships on themselves, so Allah imposed hardships on them.” (Sunan Abi Dawud).
- Compassion and Mercy:
- The Quran praises the compassion and mercy that were placed in the hearts of the true followers of Jesus. This highlights the importance of these qualities in worship and daily life.
- Rejection of Innovations:
- Islam emphasizes following the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah without adding or subtracting from them. Monasticism is seen as an innovation that deviated from the original teachings of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him).
Islam doesn’t restrict us, it protects us.
Everything we say and do is from our knowledge. The more knowledge of revelation we have, the more morally and purposefully we live.
